Dual Immersion Academy
Mission Statement and Program Model
The Dual Immersion Academy is a K-8 school in Grand Junction. It creates and celebrates a nurturing environment by promoting diverse languages and cultures for individual learning and growth. Students are instructed throughout the day in different groupings and environments. Each grade level has two teachers: an English-dominant teacher and a Spanish-dominant teacher. Throughout the day students interact in both environments.
- Students develop strong skills in their native language while acquiring a second language
- Native English speaking and native Spanish speaking students and families interact and form friendships, promoting cultural diversity
- Bilingualism offers many opportunities for the FUTURE
Art Program at Dual Immersion Academy
Art instruction at DIA currently takes place once a month in a program called Art Heritage. During these sessions parent volunteers help the students learn specific themes for the lesson. Themes are directed at the age level and maturity of the student. This program is funded by District 51.
Yvette will now be the artist-in-residence at DIA trying to teach all grade levels, and integrating art into the core curriculum they are already required to learn. This program will occur at least twice a month, and will further expand the art education of the students. She hopes to focus on various art techniques for all ages. Yearly, the school will showcase this artwork in an art show and a calendar.
Calendars
These are a fundraiser to help support a new art program at DIA. Each month of the calendar shows samples of the student artwork for the 2010-2011 school year. The theme for the calendars is COUNTRIES, and each student did artwork to represent the county he or she was assigned.
All donations go directly towards supplies for students to use for future art classes in the school program; including paper, paints, brushes, etc. We really appreciate your help and support. Also, if would like to help volunteer, or would like more information, please contact Yvette at (970) 243-7866 or e-mail at monumentbikers@bresnan.net. Thank you!
